Envisioning a sustainable tourism future
Amongst the science base and transparent communication, sustainability is as well about creatively envisioning and designing a positive, motivating future of how our societies will look like.
Putting a vision first, then backcasting to where we are today, and only then defining concrete steps how to achieve that vision is a promising way forward to motivate, empower and include people and communities.
Students of the elective course “Sustainability Empowerment” of the BSc Tourism studies at the University of Applied Sciences HTW Chur, Switzerland, have developed such sustainable tourism system visions in the format of multimedia blogs. These visions are creative outposts of how students imagine tourism to contribute to a sustainable society in the year 2050. The multimedia blogs may help to develop a better understanding of what sustainability in tourism means and how to think about it in a positive and constructive way.
